Coauthor of the funny and hip Sex Tips for Straight Women from a Gay Man, Dan Anderson returns with hints for his less-experienced fellows, including advice on how to work a gay bar, how to dodge trolls, and how to decorate your apartment cheaply but with flair. There's less explicit sex talk here than the title suggests, but neophytes will appreciate learning a few new come-ons and some variations on the Princeton Belly Rub. A section rating the romantic and sexual viability of gay types, from Gym Bunny to Girleen to Bossy Bottom, is less helpful and mainly an opportunity for cracking jokes. Not one of the types turns out to be all-around wonderful, so the unwritten message is that if your date can be this easily categorized, he isn't worth the effort. Sex Tips for Gay Guys is light reading for the truck stop or the bubble bath. --Regina Marler
About the Author
Dan Anderson is the co-author (with Maggie Berman) of the cult hit Sex Tips for Straight Women from a Gay Man. He has lived in New York, Paris, Washington and Philadelphia. He is currently living in Los Angeles in order to conduct research into the mating habits of surfer dudes, soap starts, agents-in-training, and other indigenous species.

Very funny!

This was a funny book, blending truth and humor. Although there was too many pages devoted to "types" of gay men, most of the book is right-on and written with a sly sense of humor. I don't know if any of these tips would actually work in the real gay world, but it was a fun read.

Is it supposed to be funny?

Is it supposed to be funny? That is something I've asked myself again and again as I read this book. Not being male and not being homosexual, I still felt a bit uncomfortable as I read page after page of stereotypes. The book represents the "gay male culture of big cities" as primarily a hunting ground for sex -- which it may be at some level but still not all gays are out looking to get laid every night. There is some discussion about safety, both emotional and physical, and some suggestions for how to find and date someone, then how to please them. This focus on "your partner" was probably the best part of the book because it breaks that stereotype that gay men are self-absorbed (except for those "types" of guys who are really focused on themselves). The basis of the book is that if you are a gay man, you are looking for sex. The book was very witty, sometimes on purpose but sometimes I wasn't sure if it was supposed to be funny. If you are a gay man (or know gay men) in a big city this may be more understandable to you; frankly in the small city I'm in, most of the gay and bi men I talked to didn't recognize some of the terms or find it all that funny. If you don't buy it to be a serious guide, I think you'll enjoy it a lot more.

"A Pleasant Surprise"

When I first saw this book I said, "Oh, no! Not another book about Gay Sex! Don't they think we know anything? Well, one look at that homoerotic cover and I couldn't wait to shell out the money and order it. And what a pleasant surprise this book is, it really has a lot to offer for the new gay guy just coming out or the guy with tons of experience like myself (so I thought till I read this book).
This is really a book loaded with tons of info about all aspects of gay sex and dating. There's a lot of good advice here. "Master" Anderson has written a very hilarious and funny book. Even if you think you know everything already, you'll learn something new from this book. Or you should just buy it for the humor, it will keep you in stitches. I couldn't stop laughing when I read about "Sex with a Drag Queen" and "Sex with a Bossy Bottom." There's a chapter for every possible sex partner you could think of.
I read this book in one setting. After the first couple of chapters, I just couldn't put it down. This is truly an entertaining journey through the nuts and bolts of gay sex. This is a welcome edition from the author who brought us "Sex Tips for Straight Women from a Gay Man." So next time you're in a bar give a "Twirl" and then head straight home with your new man for some "M&M's." You might even get a "Pearl Necklace" out of it. Read this book and you'll know what I mean!!!
