Great perspective but requires the parent to think

Currently raising my fifth child, but the first two-year old we've had in a decade, so my wife and I thought a little refresher reading was in order. Unlike all the books I remember reading before, this book does not give specific instructions that one can follow without thought. A previous reviewer seems to have been looking for that and if you are, then this is not the book for you. But raising a child is not like following a cooking recipe or putting together a piece of furniture (or large toy) with "some assembly required." Raising a child well requires a good deal of observation, thought, interaction, customization (no two of my 5 are anywhere near alike enough to have been raised the same), and yes, trial and error. So if you are looking for a child raising book that takes a more "insert tab A into slot B" approach, you could look elsewhere, or you could get this excellent book and take a better approach.
This book does an excellent job of clueing you into how your toddler thinks, why she or he is throwing tantrums and/or food, what the child is trying to communicate to you. If you can learn that, then you can craft your own strategies that will work best for you and your child, lessening the meltdowns and leading to a child who is better developed mentally and emotionally. There is nothing more important for any parent than raising their children well. This is certainly worth your attention and mental energy. This book will help you maximize the effort you put in, not help you minimize and skate by.

This book is great for a first time parent

As all kids are different, some of the ideas in the book will just not work on all kids. My 2 year old is my 4th and last child and was hoping for, some new information that I have not already acquired to help me with her. I have not finished reading yet but I am hopeful I will find something new.
